Some of the most popular games online are online slots. Known to us in the UK as online fruit machines, one arm bandits, pub slots or just plain fruities after the symbols you must often see on the reels, and online pokies to our Australian cousins, it is no surprise that slots games are so popular in the UK. The slots games available in the UK are often of higher quality than their counterparts that you would see in the casino or down the pub. And because many of the jackpots are networked across multiple casinos, some of the jackpots you´ll find online are mouth wateringly huge. Some of these progressive slots games (so called because the jackpots progress up until someone in the network scoops the big one) can start their tickers on 7 figures.

Types of slots
All slots require you to insert coins or cash to spin the reels. Sorry! No way of getting around this one! You then set off the reels by pressing a button or pulling a lever- the slots game may have a skill element somewhere in its repertoire (like a skill shot) or may not involve any skill at all and be a game of pure chance.
The aim is obviously to win cash by matching symbols, which are generally images of fruits, or bells, diamonds, or hearts. More modern fruities are often themed on a movie- this branded sector of the market is getting ever bigger, so you might find yourself playing The Terminator Slot one day and The Osbournes the next.
Most slots games have a number of winning combinations of symbols, which should be clearly published with their respective payouts. If you land the correct  combo of reels you win cash or gain entry into bonus rounds.
Traditional 3 line slots are still very popular, particularly in the UK, where they are often marketed as Pub Slots or Fruities- as these are the kinds of games that you often see down the pub. UK centric online casinos such as Ladbrokes will have a comprehensive line up of pub style slots that will offer nudges, nudge holds and skill shots- in short everyting you would expect to be doing down the boozer as you rest your pint on the top of the machine. Also becoming increasingly popular are multi-line slots.
These have more than one payline, which gives you more combinations to match (but doesn´t necessarily increase your odds).
Reel slots generally have 3 or 5 paylines, while video slots can come with nine, fifteen, twenty-five, or even a hundred separate pay-lines.
Video slots are generally themed on movies, shows off the telly or based famous people or families (like The Osbournes and The Addams Family....). Typically it costs between 1 and 5 credits to start playing where a credit is one pound or a dollar.
The more you bet per spin, the higher the win amounts (to incentivise you to bet "The Max" most machines only offer the big jackpot wins for players that bet the full amount).
Big casinos offer a full range of slot machines for all budgets where you can play from as little as £0.01 (penny slots) to the more hair-raising high stakes slots for high rollers where one spin will set you back anything up to £100. High Roller slot machines are normally separated off from the rest in a land based casino in a "High Limit" area. Drinks are free (funnily enough)! in this section.
The days of your bucket filling up with coins when you win accompanied by a "kerching, kerching, kerching" sound are not over yet as you still get machines that spit out winnings in coins, but generally your winnings will be loaded onto a card these days -in Las Vegas certainly. But even they know that a machine that is making a racket while it is spewing out coins is a real draw for other players, so there will be lots of noise and flashing lights going on of you do win, don´t worry.
